The beautiful 75-foot Douglas-fir tree that stands tall in our City’s Living Room each holiday season has been a beloved Portland tradition for 35 years.

Since 2001, Pioneer Courthouse Square has proudly partnered with Oregon’s Stimson Lumber Company to secure this generous donation for the City of Portland.  This month, Pioneer Courthouse Square is honored to announce that Stimson Lumber Company is continuing their generous commitment to providing the City of Portland with a stately Douglas-fir for an additional five years.

Stimson Lumber Company, which is committed to long term growth and sustainability, is a six generation, family-owned, company that set down roots in Oregon over 160 years ago.  Stimson Lumber Company is now one of the oldest continuously operating integrated wood product companies in the United States.  With a commitment to supporting and adhering to the Sustainable Forestry Initiative along with setting its own sustainable forestry principles, including their 45-year lifecycle practice, Stimson sets the standard for sustainable forestry practices. Their dedication allows for the production of wood and lumber while protecting forest resources such as wildlife, clean air and clean water.  Today, Stimson Lumber operates over 500,000 acres of forestland in the Western United States with seven mills in Oregon and Idaho.

The selection and transportation of the City’s Tree from Stimson Lumber’s Sustainable forestland near Gaston, Oregon into the heart of Downtown is a year-long selection and grooming process involving a skilled team to help manage the Tree’s care, travel, installation and maintenance.  This collaborative process would not be possible without the expertise of Stimson Lumber Company along with partners from Portland Parks and Recreation’s Urban Forestry Division, Redmond Heavy Hauling Trucking, NessCampbell Crane and the Square’s Event Production team.

The continuation of this generous partnership with Stimson Lumber Company will ensure Downtown is a vibrant and active destination throughout the holiday season for years to come.
