The downtown Portland holiday season will officially kick off at Noon on November 15th when Portland’s 75-foot Douglas-fir arrives in Portland’s Living Room for the holiday season. This year’s tree, grown on sustainable forestlands near Gaston, Oregon, is being generously donated by Stimson Lumber for the 18th year in a row. The Tree will begin its three-day journey from the forest to the heart of downtown with the help of Redmond Heavy Hauling and NessCampbell Crane. Community members can help welcome the City’s tree into the Square on Friday, the 15th as it’s lifted into position in the center of the Square by a 40 ton capacity hydraulic truck crane. Portland Parks & Recreation’s Urban Forestry division will help to secure the tree into place. Those attending this event will enjoy live music from The Beat Goes On Marching Band, grab a bite to eat from The Carts on the Square, and say hello to Santa!
The Pioneer Courthouse Square Event Production team will then spend the following two weeks skillfully reattaching tree branches and working with Portland’s Hollywood Lights to adorn the tree with over 14,000 energy efficient LED lights which will be ceremoniously lit on November 29th at 5:30pm during the 35th Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony.
