“From the day he was born on April 26th of 2002, Rojo has enjoyed being around people of all ages,” says Mountain Peaks Therapy Llamas and Alpacas. After noticing his calm and friendly temperament, Rojo’s handler decided to get him certified as a therapy animal in 2007. Since then, Rojo has visited hundreds of hospitals, senior facilities, schools, and other events; always bringing a smile to those he meets.

In July of 2019, Rojo made a visit to Pioneer Courthouse Square as a part of the Wellness Wednesday series. He was greeted with surprise, smiles, and a long line of people waiting their turn to meet him. Research has proven that therapy animals have the potential to greatly reduce stress, anxiety and trauma and the Wellness Wednesday participants confirmed just that. “Interacting with Rojo was the highlight of my day. There is nothing quite so calming and stress-relieving as a dressed up llama,” said Debbie Gunther, a Wellness Wednesday participant. By and large, Rojo produces excitement and happiness wherever he goes, and his trip to the Square was no different.

To thank Rojo for his 12 years of service to the community, DoveLewis and Mountain Peaks Therapy Llamas and Alpacas are throwing a retirement party in the Square on October 27th. Fellow therapy animals and community members alike will join Rojo in the Square from 1:00pm-4:00pm to celebrate the joy Rojo has brought into our community.
